#onethousandwomentolookupto

The concept of onethousand is basic – it is a goal of education projects being able to collaborate with a thousand women around the world, in both developed and developing countries, to bring about a sense of unity to the advocacy and action of girls and women’s literacy and education development.

Each of the women from the thousand will act as a role model for girls and women, from their own communities, countries, language groups, regions, and ethnic groups, as well as an Ambassador who can flag grassroots projects that already operate and deliver for, in particular, girls and women.

Each of the thousand women we are searching for will be dealing with the craft of writing, education, or information dissemination. The women we image are vital, healthy, brave, intelligent, grounded and either internationally regarded, or locally effective, a woman that is doing something that makes a people proud to have her come from their town, village, region or country.

At the moment I am talking with non-political and non-religious international NGO’s to find one that is perfectly suited to adopt the onethousand concept.

In the meantime, please let me know of a woman that is a role model for you, from your place. Maybe it was a woman that inspired you to finish school, to go to university, to start a business, maybe it was a woman that many people know as someone who advocates and supports local initiatives, or is working at the community centre teaching maternal health and inspires girls to look up to her, perhaps she is a national icon.

Some of my own thousand would be; Toni Morrison, Anita Heiss, Tracy Chapman, and hmmm my older sister Tania.

If you would like to nominate a woman that is inspirational in the field of literacy and education, including academic, health, emotional, and social education; then please talk about her on Twitter by hash tagging  #onethousandwomentolookupto

Or email it to onethousandorg@gmail.com

Thank you and looking forward,
